Letters From A Distant Shore, by Marie Lawson Fiala

I met Marie at a small gathering recently and heard her speak about her family's life being turned upside-down when her 13 year old son, Jeremy, suffered a massive brain hemorhage. So hard to even imagine the pain, and yet her book, at its core, is about Love. Trust. Faith.

Anger has been an irrelevant emotion. We are small ships afloat on a vast ocean. It is in the nature of the ocean to have storms as well as sunlit green expanses. Life is made of both pain and joy. We have no special dispensation to be exempt from the former while hoping for the latter. I try with God's help to bear the burdens with grace and to live the joys fully. This particular pain has not been more than I can bear. Jeremy is alive. It is that, above all else, for which I am thankful.

Have you stretched today?

I want to celebrate with you. I just did a BIG stretch--shot my first video--and it felt so good!
Sure, I know the importance of video these days but the vision of one that was uniquely special for me just wasn't popping. It was easy to move it down the list of things to accomplish. So, I kept listening, kept trusting my messages from Spirit and one day last month I received it. So I stretched and went for it! It's in post-production now.

Here's a little nugget to share. Even when I wasn't totally clear about the vision for the video, I was taking steps to get important pieces in place. I chose Lisa Keating of www.EncinoMomProductions.com to shoot, edit and create the final product. Lisa and her crew have been incredibly professional and great to work with. I also asked a number of fabulous women entrepreneurs, who have worked with me individually or in my Mastermind groups, to tape testimonials. Lindey Lambert of amusemedia, Stacie Dawes of funkiejunk, Jackie Page of Alter and Claudia Ossa, realfoodies. Claudia drove down from San Francisco just for this! Unbelievable! Karen Snyder of Cosmetically Organized joined us for makeup touch-ups.

I love networking with other bright, fabulous professional women. If I'm going to use my time, though, I want to really be able to connect. It's not about just trading business cards to me. It's now a 3 hour delay. I keep checking the flight status for my daughter's trip home for Christmas break, and as it lengthens, I listen to her amped up stress and frustration. What she really wants to do is get home and rest after final exams, and yet all that's occurring is that she's getting more and more stressed! Anything similar happenin' to you this holiday season?

Yesterday I was finding my head swimming from shopping, emails and holilday to-dos. Too much rush and frenzy and all I got was sloppy in my thinking.

All together now...BREATHE!!!!! Let's all take some precious moments just for us, to stop, get present and then move into curiosity about our next steps.

The Celebration Station

How often, if ever, do you really celebrate yourself? What I've witnessed in my work as a professional coach is that we want fulfilling lives brimming full of fun and passion, but we're not very good at celebrating any of our steps on the path to reaching that big vision. What's that about! And what does celebrating ourselves even look like?

I asked the participants in my Break the Money Spell call to do just that. I created a Celebration Station for the group to celebrate any step they took outside their comfort zone. It could be a baby step, a giant leap or a mis-step, but in some way they found a new bit of awareness or insight. It was also, then, about acknowledging one another, so as they paid it forward, new space opened up for more to flow in.

We're all on the go go go. Imagine what might be possible if we took moments to celebrate ourselves, and others! Try it. Celebrate yourself and someone else every day this week. And please let me know what you experience.

I've been getting calls and emails from people after announcing a 3 part teleseries on Money Flow. 'Yes, of course I want more money to flow my way", they say, "but I'm exhausted, stressed and scared, to be honest, and not sure I believe that anything can make money flow for me. It feels like my luck has run out."

Whoa, Nelly! What we think of as luck is really our power, and money is a simply a symbol of power. If you don't think you're in flow with money, then you are likely surrendering power.

Forget the selling, already!

Forget your selling self-consciousness, already! Leadership and business building are never about "selling". They are about connecting-at all levels, on any platform, in any economy. Take Ron Sugar, for example, who until his recent retirment was Chairman and CEO of Northrup-Grumman. In an annual gathering of several hundred Northrop managers, Sugar walked into the ballroom and without explanation began playing the piano. When he finished a short classical piece, he got up and told the audience how he loved playing the piano, and then shared other details of things important to him. Apparently, people later came up to him and had personal, meaningful conversations. That was Sugar's way to connect. “Leadership, Sugar later would say, is personal. If people are going to follow you, they need to know more about you than the fact that you are their boss. They need to know your hopes, dreams, talents and expectations."

Calm in the Chaos

After my last post, many of you have asked what I do in my own practice to remember how powerful I am and to 'declare' the chaos over. You're busy, ambitious, active and on the go, go, go. It can be hard to find a way out of the overwhelm. Believe me, I get it. Here's what I want you to know. There is choice in every moment...and that is the point of entry for finding calm in the chaos.

Your body is your best buddy to let you know when frustration, frenzy and fear are there. Stop! Pay attention! Breathe! Then take a moment for a clarity reading. What are you focusing on? What are your feelings associated with those things? The feeling with the most intensity is your current point of attraction! Is that area of focus and that associated feeling supporting you? If not, know that you always have choice.

The Giving Meltdown

Are you like so many of my clients who are in hyper overgiving mode? It can be so weighty and exhausting! You give and give until there's a giving meltdown, at which point a little voice inside whispers 'What about me?"

I believe that we are here to spread love and joy and receive, as well as give. It's part of the circle and is critical to flow. Giving-Receiving-Giving-Receiving=Flow. We know that intellectually, but how does it show up in practice?

As many of you know, I was called to give this past month. I listened, trusted and acted upon that message. I gave a free extra class to each of my ongoing groups and I offered 2 free Business Booster Mastermind calls to my community. People responded with gratitude and I felt grateful to be able to do it. Yet it was intentional giving. I love all my clients and wanted to share more. I wanted people to experience the power of my groups, knowing that they would clearly see whether my new Bootcamp program would be a fit for them, or not. It made the decision so easy for them. In most cases, they knew in their heart what choice they wanted to make and the calls and emails for sign-ups just flowed in. That's Wealth Flow, and it's so fun and easy!

In the film, Pay It Forward, the young boy shares the pain he sees around him. Clearly, I see people every day who are scared, stressed and struggling...and I see so many who are not giving up. Not giving in to the fear. Acknowledging that fear and taking their steps anyway, because their desire to create a business connected to their heart is so huge, their desire to live their biggest life so compelling

I'm hearing that today (7:35 p.m. PST) we will experience the longest, most powerful solar eclipse of the 21st Century, which represents a death knell for old patterns and an opening for Wealth Flow. Now, to be honest, I know little about astrology, but I do see every day how old ways of rigid thinking are giving way to more intuitive ways of being, in our businesses and in our lives. For a couple of weeks in June I felt what many of you are experiencing: stress and struggle. Yes, my business is better than ever, but would it continue? Yes, my husband is brilliant and resourceful, but could even he keep a small business going in today's environment. You know what it's like, right? Low-level anxiety and fear. Every day I used the tools in my spiritual toolbox and would make a choice to be in ease and flow. Man, I was doing my work! And then in a conversation with my dear friend, Stephanie, the word 'surrender' was spoken and I felt an immediate shift. Aahhhh, that was the problem. I had been working really hard! This is all not meant to be such a struggle. We are meant to be in ease, flow and abundance.

Where are you being called to surrender?

I've been putting off starting a blog for a really long time. I had logical reasons to wait, with clear priorities and focus on developing my coaching programs. Good. Great. Laser focus is a really important piece of my Wealth Flow System, as alot of you know. And now I'm ready to launch something new here, to enter this social marketing arena in a bigger way, and I'm feeling kind of frozen. What do I write? Hmmm... So, I got something to eat, called my friend, wandered around and did everything I could think of but write. And then I started laughing at myself. This is exactly what I hear from clients all the time and I tell them the same thing I'm now telling myself. You don't have to have it all figured out. Just take a step, Laurie. It doesn't have to be a perfect step, a mother-may-I step or a giant leap. Just take a baby step. And then another, and another. So here I am with my entry as my first baby step. I hope you'll come and visit and stay to play.
